I’m the oldest of three brothers. When I was a kid, I loved to fish, and when I tasted success, the first thing I wanted to do was show my brothers how they could catch fish too. A lot has changed since those boyhood days, but I still really get a kick out of watching other people enjoy success in the outdoors. I began my guiding career leading rafting trips down Alaska’s Kenai River. During those trips, I told my guests about the history of the area, pointed out plants and animals and somehow never got anyone mauled by a bear. I loved it! I started Muskie Doom Guide Service in 2013 with the intent of showing aspiring muskie anglers how to catch fish before they shelled out a lot of money on expensive gear. I continue to offer muskie trips, but lately my focus has been on fishing Lake Superior. There are a lot of charter services out there that can put you on fish. You sit aboard a big boat and when it’s your turn, you stand up, skip in a fish behind a powerful boat, then go sit down until it’s your turn again. It’s an experience, but you’re mostly just along for the ride. That’s not how I operate. I want you to be an active participant in my Lake Superior trips. I cater specifically to anglers who might want to try fishing the Big Lake from their own boats, but don’t know where to start. I’ll teach you the techniques, then I’ll let you set your own lines if you want. I’ll explain why we’re doing what we’re doing. Lake Superior is a totally different animal than any inland lake. There’s a lot to learn, and I’m still learning every time out. I want you to have a fun experience, share a few laughs and learn a lot. And hopefully you’ll have some fish to take home with you.
What You'll Need
Superior Experience Charters supplies all needed equipment including boat, fish finder, rods, tackle and life vests. Please bring your own food, drinks and sunscreen.
Lake Superior Fishing
Please bring the following:
- Valid fishing license with trout stamp (1-day licenses are available for residents or non-residents and exempt you from the trout stamp, but please purchase in advance).
- Appropriate clothing. It's always colder on the water, so please bring layers of clothing. You can always take off layers as necessary!
- Cooler stocked with ice to take your fish home!
Inland Muskie Fishing
Please bring the following:
- Valid fishing license (1-day licenses are available for residents or non-residents, but please purchase in advance).
- Appropriate clothing. During fall trips, it's always colder on the water. Please bring layers of clothing, including long underwear, sweatshirt and a heavy winter parka. Think winter clothing! You can always take off layers as necessary.
Inland Trout
Please bring the following:
- Valid fishing license with trout stamp (1-day licenses are available for residents or non-residents, and exempt you from the trout stamp, but please purchase in advance).
- Cooler stocked with ice to take your fish home!
Winter Pike Spearing
Please bring the following:
- Valid fishing license with a separate spearing license (1-day licenses are available for residents or non-residents, but please purchase in advance).
- Winter clothing and warm boots.
- Cooler stocked with ice to take your fish home!
Lake Superior Ice Fishing
Please bring the following:
- Valid fishing license with trout stamp (1-day licenses are available for residents or non-residents, and exempt you from the trout stamp, but please purchase in advance).
- Winter clothing and warm boots.
- Cooler stocked with ice to take your fish home!
